What is VOIP?

VOIP stands for Voice Over Internet Protocol – in simple terms VOIP is the process of transmitting voice calls via the internet rather than over traditional phone lines. Calls made using VOIP are generally significantly cheaper than tradional phone calls and can even be completely free.

Are VOIP calls the same quality as normal phone calls?

VOIP calls are affected by the quality of your internet connection, and the traffic on all internet links between you and the destination you are calling. With a high quality internet connection you shouldn’t notice any difference in call quality in 99.9% of calls. However, if your internet connection is lost or is heavily loaded, you have the security of your existing traditional phone lines still being available to fall back on.

Will I need to sign up with a VOIP provider?

You will need to choose a VOIP provider to carry your VOIP calls, however VOIPme will examine your calling patterns and assist you to choose a VOIP provider and a calling plan which will suit your needs. VOIPme currently recommends MyNetFone as a high quality provider of VOIP services - check out their website www.mynetfone.com.au for further information.
